Move over, red carpet glamour, 2024 is giving Goblin era energy after a reality star used 2023's postponed Emmys as the perfect opportunity to turn heads by throwing the fashion book out the window.
After stealing the show and confusing the heck out of the photographers, ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ contestant Princess Poppy was revealed to be the mysterious green goblin lurking amongst the beautiful people.
Painted head-to-toe in sickly green paint and fitted with prosthetic ears and a nose to match, Poppy left everyone gagged as they strutted the carpet.
"I wanted to be a troll, to literally and figuratively troll the Emmys," Princess Poppy revealed to E!
Well, mission accomplished!
But why the frighteningly unusual look? According to Princess Poppy, it was all about sticking the middle finger to the expectations of fashion and beauty.
"I think it's more beautiful to show up like this than to show up how you normally would at an awards show.”
Chatting to Entertainment Weekly, Poppy spilled on the inspiration behind the jaw-dropping look.
"I wanted to do the exact opposite of what is expected of you when you go to an event like this. I wanted to take decorum and turn it on its head," they explained.
And turn it did – it's giving the love child of Jabba the Hutt and Roz from Monsters Inc.
Despite the shock factor, the night wasn't all goblins and greenery.
‘RuPaul's Drag Race’ continued its reign, snatching the Emmy for ‘Outstanding Reality-Competition Program’ for the fifth time.
During the acceptance speech, RuPaul himself thanked the show’s supporters for embracing the world of drag: "Listen, you guys are just pure lovely for honouring our show and recognising all these queens.
“We have released into the wild hundreds of drag queens and they're beautiful. On behalf of all them, we thank you.”
Say it louder Queen!
