Wow, I am still in so much shock after finding out that Matthew Perry passed away.
Everyone knew him as Chandler Bing, one of the most iconic TV characters of all time. His sarcasm was unmatched, and his bromance with Matt LeBlanc AKA Joey showcased true friendship on and off the screen.
I’ve been a huge 'Friends' fan for years, having rewatched nearly every episode at least 3 or 4 times. I’ll definitely be rewatching the reunion and some of my favourite Chandler episodes in the wake of this tragedy.
I thought I’d share my top 5 fave Chandler eps with you all, from a hearty 'Friends' fan x
Steph's Five Favourite Chandler episodes of 'Friends'
#5 - The One With The Halloween Party
Chandler dressed as a pink bunny, arm wrestling Ross dressed as 'doody' or 'Spudnik' (if you believe that)... is a classic Friend's moment. I don't know how Matthew Perry kept a straight face for the "Oh look, Chandler's doing his bedroom face" moment - where it cuts to Chandler looking like he's in pain!
There are also some great bloopers from this scene where David Schwimmer can't stop laughing at him.
#4 - The One With All The Cheesecakes
This one is random. But it comes to mind because I love that Chandler and Rachel bond in this ep. Matthew Perry said in interviews that Jennifer Anniston was the cast member who reached out to help Matthew Perry during his struggles the most, so it's really lovely seeing them in these scenes together.
Also, the cheesecakes looked fire, and I also would've eaten them off the ground.
#3 - The One With The Embryos
The famous quiz episode where we all realise that not even Chandler's own friends know what he does for a job.
This one has to make the list - it's a 'Friends' classic.
#2 - The One With Monica and Chandler's Wedding: Part 1 & 2
I love this episode even more after learning that in real life, Matthew Perry was staying at a treatment centre for his addiction battle. The audience had no idea at the time that he was so unwell, and looking back at the ep now, it's so interesting watching the juxtaposition between Chandler and Matthew.
Chandler is in love, getting married, seemingly has his life together, whereas the actor that plays him is struggling, being dropped off and picked up from rehab to shoot the scenes, getting the help he needed.
#1 - The One Where Everybody Finds Out
This episode was Matthew Perry's favourite as well, so it's gotta be my top pick! I love scenes between Chandler and Phoebe - Matthew and Lisa's comedic timing is perfection.
Fun Fact: When Phoebe sees Chandler and Monica pashing through the window from Ross's apartment, Lisa Kudrow went to Matthew Perry for advice on how to deliver 'My eyes! My eyes'.
He suggested exactly how she ended up delivering it. Next time you watch it, listen out for the hint of Chandler's unique emphasis on 'My eyes... MY eyes'.
Rest in love Matthew, thank you for all the laughs you’ve provided me and many generations of fans over the years.
