WTF is this 80s horror movie 'Zepotha' that's trending on TikTok, and where can I watch it?

Who knew a movie from 1987 could go so viral...

If you’ve been living under a TikTok rock for the last twenty-four hours you might’ve missed out on hearing about ‘Zepotha’.

‘Zepotha’ is an indie horror comedy summer slasher movie that was supposedly released in 1987 and gained  a cult following thanks to its “award winning cinematography”.

It’s all over TikTok all of a sudden, and the hype is real…but the movie is not. Yeah, that’s the weird part, fam, this super viral movie doesn’t actually EXIST.

‘Zepotha’ isn’t a movie, but a new and pretty strange TikTok trend that you’re gonna want to be across.

Musician Emily Jeffri shared their idea for ‘Zepotha’ in a viral TikTok that has received over four million views.

“Ok, so new bit idea,” she wrote in the post.  “What  if we created a fake 80s horror movie called ‘Zepotha’ and started commenting ‘omg u look EXACTLY like that one girl from Zepotha’ or ‘wait u look exactly like _______ from Zepotha’ on every thirst trap we see.”

“Together we will witness new lore develop, main characters will emerge, etc. We can convince thousands of people that this weirdly titled ‘80s horror film actually exists.”

Confusing? Yes. Totally pointless? Also yes. Kind of brilliant? Abso-freakin-loutley.

Want to join in on the fun? Here’s what you need to know:

The movie was released in 1987 and it follows the story of a small town plagued by a deadly killer. Danny is the killer and Allaine is the final girl. The film is similar to movies like ‘Fear Street’, ‘The Sixth Sense’ and ‘The Breakfast Club’.

Remember, this is all totally made up out of thin air, created by the TikTok community getting in on the gag.

The most referenced locations of the movie are the carnival, the forest and the garden scene. The main characters Alaine, Maxine, Lydia, Danny, Cole, Rita and Vincent have stolen the hearts of everyone on TikTok.

Since ‘Zepotha’ has blown up, there are now many different interpretations of the story, but as long as you know these basics, you’ll look like you’re in the know.

Even ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ star Maria Canals-Barrera has joined in on the joke saying that the movie “scared the hell out” of her.

What are you waiting for? Go and drop a Zepotha themed comment on a clueless mate’s Insta post and let’s see how far this crazy train can go!
