Benee flies Kiwi flag handed to her by NZ fans in the crowd at her first bangin Coachella set

important to rep the home country amid slaying at Coachella

New Zealand pop singer Benee made sure Coachella knew about her home country during her first-ever performance at the festival.

Amid slaying on the Mojave stage, the 23-year-old spotted a New Zealand flag in the crowd, held by fellow New Zealanders Matt O’Meeghan and his wife Sam. Benee grabbed it and held it up to her audience with a big ol’ smile on her face.

Matt and Sam said they brought the flag specifically to show Benee she had some home love all the way in California.

“Benee was our first act we wanted to see when we got to Coachella,” Matt told 1News. “We bought the flag in Turangi.”

“We made the trip to the Coin Save to grab a flag - we had to make sure she knew she had some support. The crowd were amazing and it was so good to see her being well supported over here."

There are plenty of fan videos posted online by those who were in attendance for the set, and judging from them it looked like a ball of a time in there.

You can also watch her performance of the smash hit ‘Supalonely’ on Coachella’s YouTube channel if you wanna see a Kiwi slay on one of the biggest stages there is.

Real name Stella Bennet, she joins Lorde, The Broods, Kimbra, The Naked and Famous, and more in the list of Kiwis who have played at Coachella.

Coachella is live-streaming every performance on every stage this year on YouTube, so you can feel like you’re in influencer central in the comfort of your own home. If you missed Benee’s most recent performance, you’ll get another chance to see her next weekend as she is returning to the stage for a second performance.
