Kmart is finally returning to Dunedin, so scarfies wave goodbye to your savings

This is dangerous!

Those living in Dunedin know the struggle well ever since Kmart shut up shop at the Meridian Mall. Well, it’s time to get excited because Kmart is FINALLY coming back to Dunedin!

Whether it was grabbing the essentials to set up your flat (not that the cleaning stuff ever gets used), or nipping down at 11pm for a bit of a late-night shopping spree, Dunedin has not been the same without a Kmart.

Early in 2020, Kmart left Meridian Mall after concerns about the required seismic strengthening.

The new store will be a stand-alone location on Andersons Bay Road, moving into the old Smiths City building.

Is anyone else as excited as I am for a few detours down the clothing isles during their first visit?!

In a statement, Ben Smith, general manager of Kmart Property Group, said the business had been working hard to find the "ideal location" that would continue to serve well into the future with land opportunities for retail development of the site.

"We are incredibly grateful and appreciative of the community’s patience whilst we have been securing all the right elements to land this new location,"

- Ben Smith, Kmart Property Group

With over 4000sq m of Kmart goodness split over two levels, the new sore is said to stock the full Kmart range and employ over 100 people.

"We can’t wait to welcome the Dunedin community back into our store."

- Ben Smith, Kmart Property Group

We don't know the exact date of opening right now, but in the meantime, we might as well start building up our dream cart for our first trip!
