Billie Eilish spills on her controversial relationship in sixth yearly Vanity Fair interview

“Say what you need to say, but, like, I am in control right now. I did this."

It's back, and this time it's even better! In what has become a much-anticipated annual update, Billie Eilish sat down with Vanity Fair to discuss her life, music and relationships, comparing her answers to previous years.

Billie was just 15 years old and had big plans to become the star she is today when she first spoke with Vanity Fair in 2017.

The 20-year-old pop star has now achieved those dreams with more awards than you can count, including the Oscar she won earlier this year, but she still has time in her schedule to reflect on her past self and answer the questions we’ve all been waiting for.

In this year’s interview, the singer explained that she keeps coming back because watching the videos every year makes her happy. “It’s just so cool to get to do this every year, they mean so much to me.”

Billie and her beau Jesse Rutherford made their relationship public at the end of last month whilst wearing a very controversial Halloween costume, and in this year’s interview, she talked openly for the first time ever about their love and even delved into some of the criticism she’s faced for having an age gap in their relationship.

“I just am really inspired by this person, and, you know, he’s inspired by me,” she said. “It’s really cool, and I’m really excited and I’m really happy about it.”

“Say what you need to say, but, like, I am in control right now. I did this,” she said.

“I managed to get my life to a point where I not only was known by a person that I thought was the hottest fking fker alive, but pulled his ass! Are you kidding me? Can we just [get a] round of applause for me?”

Billie also mentioned that she and her brother, Finneas O'Connell, have been spending more time together lately because they are starting to work on a new “exciting” project.

“We just started the process of making an album, which is really exciting,” she said. “So now we have, like, specific days where we see each other, which is really nice because, you know, you get caught up in life.”

The singer also reflected on having previous body image issues sharing: “I’ve had a very big transformation this year with my fitness lifestyle. It’s been a really insane process, and I feel better about myself than I ever have,” she said.

“I just look completely different than, like, ever before, kind of, which makes me feel proud. I worked really hard on it, and I just wanna get really fking buff.”

Eilish claims that 2020 was difficult for her (and we feel that), but lately, she's been happier than ever.

Billie performing at her best and glowing is something we love to see. These videos are inspiring to so many of us who have grown up and reflected on our own lives with this annual update from our fave star. Here’s hoping she’ll be back next year for round 7 of the interviews.
