'Deserved to stick around to the end': Outpouring of love for Eli after shock DWTS elimination

Eli and his charity OutLine have been flooded with support after the shock elimination.

Our own Eli Matthewson made history when he was announced as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars, in the country's first same-sex pairing.

In last night's episode, after just two weeks of competing, it was announced that Eli and his partner Jonny Williams would be leaving the competition in a decision that shocked the nation.

There has since been an outpouring of love for Eli, with social media users expressing their outrage at the elimination after the pair were sitting third on the leaderboard.

Eli and Jonny were competing to raise money for Eli's chosen charity, OutLine; a nationwide, all-ages rainbow mental health organisation.

The charity has been inundated with donations since the pairs' controversial elimination, with their Givealittle page nearing $8,000 this morning.

On the show this morning, OutLine General Manager Claire Black shared some special words with Eli on the charity's admiration and gratitude for him.

If you're keen to make your own donation to OutLine, which operates a free support line with rainbow specialist counseling and trans peer support, you can do that here

We're so proud of you Eli, you'll always be #1 in our eyes!
