Zac Efron has returned to East High. In a recent Instagram post he visited the Salt Lake City high school used during ‘High School Musical’s’ filming.
In the post Efron is punching the air, with the caption ‘Don’t you… Forget about me ✊🏼’.
The gesture and caption are a reference to the end of 80’s teen movie ‘The Breakfast Club’, but fans are speculating that the post has a larger meaning.
Efron’s post isn’t a big deal on its own - but his ‘High School Musical’ co-star Vanessa Hudgens recently posted a very similar thing.
Four weeks ago Vanessa Hudgens was in Salt Lake City and posted a video from the EXACT same location. Vanessa posed in front of East High with the song ‘Breaking Free’ playing in the background. She captioned the post with a Gabriella Montez quote from the beginning of ‘High School Musical’.
‘Do you remember in kindergarten how you'd meet a kid and know nothing about them, then 10 seconds later you're playing like you're best friends because you didn't have to be anything but yourself?’
Neither star lives in Salt Lake City - so the two posts have sparked rumours of a ‘High School Musical’ reunion.
16 years ago ‘High School Musical’ premiered on the Disney Channel and was an instant cultural phenomenan.
It's been a karaoke guilty pleasure ever since - but in recent years the franchise has received a new wave of GenZ love and nostalgia.
The Disney+ show ‘High School Musical, The Musical, The Series’ is set to premiere its 3rd season in just a few days (it lands on the streaming platform July 27th).
