Kiwis reacting to a rat problem in a Dunedin supermarket is the most NZ response ever

"Couldn't see if the rats 🐀 🐀 were full price or on special."

A South Dunedin supermarket has been spotted with some unusual undercover furry staff members – Rats!

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is now on the case, investigating the unexpected rodents running around the Andersons Bay Road Woolworths.

The supermarket finally fessed up to the issue after a snap, taken in November 2023, showed two rats in the chilled food section.

The image has since done the viral rounds on Reddit.

Of course, Kiwis being Kiwis had field day in the comment section, taking their opportunity to crack a few jokes.

"Couldn't see if the rats 🐀 🐀 were full price or on special," one witty user wrote.

Another said: "From the rats' perspective, they did hit the jackpot finding a home there 😄."

"Cost of living's so bad that even the rats are stealing from the supermarket," a third joked.

While a fourth hilariously added: "Just two mates from neighbouring apartments, shooting the breeze with full bellies and enjoying the view from their decks.”

Despite the hilarious takes on the typically concerning occurrence, the supermarket is assuring customers that the issue is being dealt with.

"We just want something done. We don't need rats in the supermarket or any of that sort of carry-on," staff said via Otago Daily Times.

A spokesperson also told the outlet, they are  "absolutely committed" to food safety across all stores around the country.
