A US girl has been found by a Netflix true crime fan six years after she was abducted

See, watching true crime is a good use of my time!

Loved ones have been searching for Kayla Unbehaun for six years after allegedly being abducted by her non-custodial Mum. Now, thanks to one avid Netflix watcher, she has been found.

Kayla was just nine years old when she went missing. Now, at the age of 15, she’s been found in North Carolina, nearly 1000km away from her home in Illinois by a member of the public who recognised her from ‘Unsolved Mysteries’.

As reported by The Guardian, a shopper recognised Kayla as the missing person from the show and called the police.

Kayla has now been reunited with her father after six long years!

“I’m overjoyed that Kayla is home safe,” Kayla’s father said in a statement issued by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

“WE ASK FOR PRIVACY AS WE GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER AGAIN AND NAVIGATE THIS NEW BEGINNING.”

Back in 2017, Ryan Iserka won full custody of his daughter over her mother, Heather Unbehaun.

Heather was granted supervised visits, but on July 5th his daughter never returned from a camping trip with her mother.

“Unbehaun was arrested Saturday and was held on a $250,000 bond awaiting extradition,” Buncombe County Deputy Clerk Cory Alexander told CNN on Tuesday.

Specific charges were not listed, and she has been given a July 11 court date.

Meanwhile, Kayla’s father is overjoyed his daughter is home safe.

Netflix also celebrated the news and shared their excitement to their official Twitter account.

In a statement through the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, Ryan thanked the public, organisations and law enforcement agencies for spreading the word about the search for the teen.

“I also want to thank all of the followers on the ‘Bring Kayla Home’ Facebook page, who helped keep her story alive and were instrumental in spreading awareness,” he said.

"There are a lot of people that love her, and everyone wants to see her and spend time with her.”
