This is not a drill: KFC's 11 herbs and spices recipe has accidentally been leaked

The best kept secret is out!

It’s the best-kept secret that people have spent years trying to figure out. KFC's 11 herbs and spices have been leaked, and it was all an accident - oops!

Nephew of the legendary Colonel Harland Sanders, Joe Ledington, has accidentally revealed the secret recipe to his uncle’s empire.

Joe met with the Chicago Tribune to talk about his late uncle. He brought along an old family scrapbook and that’s where things got exciting!

After going through the whole scrapbook, something looked different about the will of his aunt.

Writer for the Tribune, Jay Jones, spotted handwriting on the back of the will, and it was a listed recipe. He asked Joe if it could be THE recipe.

"That is the original 11 herbs and spices that were supposed to be so secretive," Joe revealed.

The recipe written on the back of the paper read:

11 Spices - mix with 2 cups of white flour

1. 2/3 Ts salt
2. 1/2 Ts thyme
3. 1/2 Ts basil
4. 1/3 Ts oregano
5. 1 Ts celery salt
6. 1 Ts black pepper
7. 1 Ts dried mustard
8. 4 Ts paprika
9. 2 Ts garlic salt
10. 1 Ts ground ginger
11. 3 Ts white pepper

So that’s it? That’s the secret recipe that has been under lock and key for decades?

Well, of course, many replica recipes have been shared on the internet for years and haven’t come close to matching the magical taste of K-fry’s crispy coating.

So, Jay took note of the hand-written recipe back to the Tribune to test for themselves.

Comparing it to the real thing, the recipe on its own was good but not quite reaching the levels that the fast food chain offers straight out of the fryer. The Tribune found that the true secret was adding MSG to their mixture, and that’s when they had a match.

So, there we have it. The best-kept secret is out! Looks like we will have to test it ourselves to truly see how it compares.
Honestly, cbk for some homemade wicked wings - That would be a game changer!
