The Kiwi comic was met with skepticism by both the judges and audience. Competitors are usually quizzed before launching into a performance, but Wills does not speak while in character. But his three minute gig was quickly met with laughter and applause.
Simon Cowell said: "'I like the fact we don't know who you are. It was simple, clever, unique, brilliant."
His audition impressed all four judges with Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Mel Brown all voting "yes".
Wills, who hails from Canterbury, took to social media following the episode's screening.
"Thank you for all of your amazing support already!" he wrote on Facebook. "Let's see how far we can take this thing."
