Jayden announces he’s leaving The Edge

“It’s the right time for me”

Jayden has announced he will be leaving the Edge.

"I'm just going to rip the band-aid off, I am leaving" he revealed.

"Myself and my beautiful girlfriend Gracie are going to go on a bit of an OE" he said.

He opened up about the tough decision to give up his announcing role.

"I know I am throwing away something that I hold very dear to my heart. It's been a very well-thought-out decision, but it's the right time for me," he said.

Jayden started at The Edge back in 2019 after he won 'Quit Your Day Job', ending a nationwide search for a new Edge Afternoons host.

After selecting a group of finalists to go through a series of interviews and challenges, Sharyn surprised Jayden by setting up a 'fake meeting' to announce that he would be joining her on the show in 2020.

Watch the moment below.

And just like that, Jayden joined the Edge Whanau and we've loved every single second of it.

Jayden has spent three years with Sharyn and Producer Dan on the show and has made a huge impact on our Edge Whanau, one that will never be replaced.

He explained that after the pandemic closed the borders, limiting the opportunity to travel, the time has now come for him to go abroad.

"You know, the borders are open. We don't have kids. Our mates live over there now. The lease is ending on our flat."

"I've met a lot of people with kids that wished they did it when they didn't have kids, so that's me right now before I have kids" he explained.

"It's been an amazing three years together, you've grown so much as a person, as a radio announcer," Sharyn said.

"Genuinely we're going to miss you and you've done such a great job."

He explained that while he's leaving the show at the end of the year, he won't be leaving New Zealand until May 2023.

"We've booked our flights, we're heading to London in May next year. We're going to travel around Europe and then fingers crossed, we want to live in Portugal"

Jayden's last show will be on the 23rd of December but you can expect to still see him around The Edge Whanau until he leaves the country in May.

From the bottom of our hearts, we want to express our gratitude to Jayden for his incredible mahi over the past three years, his incomparable energy, and his enthusiasm.

We're going to miss you, Creech!
