MAFS' Al Perkins reveals the rank infection he reckons he got after a shoey, and I'm gagging

"I swear after that my throat hasn’t been the same.”

'Married At First Sight' turned 'Love Island' AU star Al Perkins has revealed the disgusting infection he caught from performing his famed ‘party trick’ - a shoey.

Turns out drinking a bevvy from a dirty shoe is not the greatest of ideas, who would've thunk it?!

The Aussie reality star sat down for Yahoo’s 'All-Star MAFS Reunion' and explained that while he “finds it liberating” to cock a dirty drink down his neck, there was one time when it may have gone too far.

Poor mate Al reckons he contracted somewhat of a fungal infection in his throat… someone grab me a bucket, cause I’m about to hurl!

Al explained: “I remember one time I did a shoey, someone gave me their shoe and I did it, and I gave them back their shoe and they were like, ‘Oh, I’ve got warts on my foot’.”

“And I swear after that my throat hasn’t been the same.”

I wouldn’t think so after that. And you know what, despite all of that, the former MAFS star doesn’t plan on giving up the shoey life anytime soon.

I know what you’re thinking, you’ve got to be pulling my leg, right? Well, not unless it’s Al trying to get hold of your shoe.

“I'm not sick of shoeys just yet,” he said.

“It gets the group going and it uplifts the mood. I've never denied a shoey, I'll always keep doing them.”

He added: “I'm at the stage now, it’s been like over 12 months since our season aired and [people] forget my name, they forget everything about me, but all they remember is the shoey part. I’m just going to ride it out for as long as it lasts.”

Well, I’m not sure about picking the social relevancy over the threat of another throat infection would be my first option, but I’ve got to admit… He’s not wrong about it boosting the mood!

For now, and probably in every instance, I would encourage you not to partake in a shoey, but for those brave and bold enough to take the risk, I salute you!
