We know they say 'new year new' you, but in 2023 Shawn Mendes said it sounds like the perfect time for a new hairdo.
Yep, the singer buzzed all of his iconic curly locks off and traded them in for an edgier shorter look.
His newly shaved head saw its debut as Shawn stepped out into the streets of Los Angeles over the weekend.
However, the snaps of the singer's shocking new look left fans torn over whether to love it or hate it.
One person tweeted: “I’m so sad right now”, alongside a bunch of crying emojis.
“HELP IDK IF I SHOULD SCREAM, cry OR THROW UP,” added another.
A third paid special tribute to one curl that would always hang over Shawn’s face in particular.
I guess this tweet from 2014 didn’t age very well cause we are absolutely FREAKING Shawn!!
Others made some pretty hilarious comparisons to other celebrities and famous characters.
One reckons he was heavily influenced by Millie Bobby Brown in ‘Stanger Things’.
Another shared his likeness to Liam Payne from One Direction taking a buzz to the head back in 2012.
And my personal fave has to be the uncanny resemblance to Sid from ‘Toy Story’! Try to tell me you don’t see it too.
The new look comes just a few months after Shawn cancelled his world tour to focus on his mental health.
The 23-year-old singer announced made the announcement after revealing he was hitting "breaking point" and he is now trying to "take it easy" during his break while taking all the opportunities he's not been able to embrace over the last few years.
He took to Instagram back in July and wrote: “I started this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic, but the reality is I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away,”
“I promise I will be back as soon as I’ve taken the right time to heal. I love you all and thank you all so much for supporting me and sticking by me on this journey.”
Well if this new haircut is anything to go by, I’d say Shawn is taking all the necessary steps to heal because who of us hasn’t taken a chop to start fresh? I know I have!
