'Price of Glee' trailer reveals 'fame can be poisonous' after the deaths of three cast members

"The bigger the show went, the smaller their worlds become."

A new documentary will uncover the behind-the-scenes controversies and tragedies of one of our favourite TV shows through our early teen years - 'Glee'.

The first teaser of ‘The Price of Glee’ has been released, focusing on the aftermath of the deaths of three of its major cast members: Cory Monteith (Finn), Mark Salling (Puckerman) and Naya Rivera (Santana).

"In May 2009, 10 young actors made their TV debut on Glee," the trailer reads, but as the title suggests, that all came with one big price.

"By 2020, all of them would be famous and three of them would be dead."

The six-season series lasted between 2009 and 2015 and rocketed its cast into TV fame with iconic musical numbers and hilarious one-liners, but its reputation has been somewhat stained by rumours and rivalries.

The series description reads: "With unbiased filters, hear directly from those outside of the cast bubble who can provide no-strings-attached perspectives such as relatives and friends of Glee cast members; those who were on the set and close to it, such as set decorators, hairdressers, stylists and publicists.”

Fans know that Monteith, Rivera, and Salling all died at young ages and under tragic circumstances.

"The bigger the show went, the smaller their worlds become," an interviewee says.

The doco will also feature an interview with Naya's father, George Rivera, who will reflect on how Glee influenced his late daughter's life.

"I knew that was the top of the mountain for Naya. For your kid, it was just surreal."

At another point, he adds, "Fame can be poisonous."

Although the documentary series will attempt to explain the show's complicated background, it won’t feature interviews with any former cast members or Glee creator Ryan Murphy.

‘The Price of Glee’ will be released in 3 parts early next year. We are unsure when it may be available here in NZ, but we have our fingers and toes crossed that we won’t need to wait too long!
