Taylor Swift confirms 'All Too Well' red scarf metaphor and fans think it's about her virginity

Who would've thought an item of clothing could mean so much?

Fans reckon they’ve cracked the nail on the head with their theory on Taylor Swift’s ‘All Too Well’ red scarf - You know, the one from the most scandalous song EVER to exist?

Well, it all started with Taylor’s seriously awkward confirmation that the scarf that everyone has been stressing over is actually a metaphor.

Taylor was asked about the importance of the scarf during an appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Taylor became visibly flustered as she explained the scarfs meaning and she had to stop herself from spilling any more details on what the metaphor actually meant.

“The scarf is a metaphor, um, and we turned it red because red is a very important colour in this album, which is called Red,” she joked.

Taylor continued: “Um… And I think when I say it’s a metaphor, I’m just going to stop… I’m going to say thanks for the incredible question to whoever asked it, you’ve really taken us for a ride with that one, thank you.”

That’s where the fan theory comes in.

Fans believe that Taylor's confirmation of the scarf being a metaphor is eluding to Taylor’s sexual debut - aka losing her virginity.

One Twitter user wrote: “The scarf Taylor was talking about in all too well was her virginity, and in this essay, I will…”

Another backed up the theory by claiming that it is still something that her ex has “even now.”

“I hate when people get too invested in celebrities' personal lives but the theory that the red scarf is a symbol for her virginity is literally so perfect,” wrote a third.

Although a  fourth shared the creepiness of fans snooping a little too hard into Taylor's personal life.

We have to admit, this whole thing has blown up into something none of us would have expected, but then again, fans who dig will find - Right?

So why is this so important, and why do we give a fk about this g-damn red scarf?

ICYMI Taylor rereleased recordings of her songs from the album ‘Red’, and with that came ‘All Too Well’ (10-minute version) (Taylors Version), where we were also treated to an accompanying short film directed by the superstar herself.

The video draws attention to a line in the song about her leaving her scarf at the house of ex Jake Gyllenhaal’s sister, Maggie.

“I left my scarf there at your sister's house, and you've still got it in your drawer even now.”

“But you keep my old scarf from that very first week because it reminds you of innocence and smells like me. You can’t get rid of it.”

There is no confirmation from Taylor that this theory is accurate, and who knows if she ever will? I guess, for now, Swifties can have their Sherlock moment, and maybe one day we'll get our answer.
