Two police officers in L.A. just got fired for playing Pokémon Go while a real life robbery was taking place.
Louis Lozano and Eric Mitchell from the LAPD lost their appeal against "multiple counts of misconduct" after they were caught in the act - by a camera which was recording them in their patrol car. What a rookie mistake.
Instead of going along to assist - the commanding officer was spotted in a police car "tucked back in an alley just feet away" where he started "to back up down the alley" away from the robbery.
Just minutes later the video recording captured the officers talking about Pokémon Go and "for approximately the next 20 minutes, the DICVS captured [the officers] discussing Pokémon as they drove to different locations where the virtual creatures apparently appeared on their mobile phones".
They managed to catch two rare Pokemon, a Snorlax and a Togetic. Although it's not clear if the suspects in the robbery actually got apprehended.
Crime doesn't pay - neither does ignoring it by catching a Snorlax.
