It's official, Facebook is changing its name to 'Meta'

It's official, Facebook has a new company name.

During Facebook's Connect event earlier today, Mark Zuckerberg announced that their new name will be 'Meta', as reported by The Verge.

"Together, we can finally put people at the center of our technology. And together, we can unlock a massively bigger creator economy.” The CEO said.

Zuckerberg said that Facebook doesn't reflect everything the company now does and is still just linked to the app "But over time, I hope we are seen as a metaverse company."

Now before you ask... no, the Facebook app we all know will not change names to 'Meta'. It's just the parent company (remembering that facebook owns Instagram, and Whatsapp as well) that will be changing rebranding to 'Meta'.

The rebrand is just the next step in Zuckerbergs plan in creating the 'Metaverse'.

On their website, Facebook writes '3D spaces in the metaverse will let you socialize, learn, collaborate and play in ways that go beyond what we can imagine.'

The change is official from now, with the brand's website officially changing over to 'Meta' and the twitter account going live.
