Cue Pocketful of Sunshine by Natasha Beddingfield because we are ready for round two!
One of the best 00’s teen movies is in the works to be back on the big screens featuring the return of some original characters!
If you haven’t seen it already (silent judgement) here's the rundown!
Emma Stone starred in Easy A as Olive Prenderghast, a high school student who quickly becomes the talk of the school. After a lie she told her best friend about losing her virginity is overheard it gets spread around. The movie was a major box office success, sealing Stone's place as a true Hollywood star. Since then, fans have speculated on whether or not a sequel might be developed.
It has been 3 years since PopBuzz speculated the news of a spin-off potentially being in the works back in 2019, 10 years after its initial release. Nothing ever came of that until now!
Emma Stone's co-star, Aly Michalka, who played Olive's best friend Rhiannon Abernathy, has revealed that a sequel is still in the pipeline. She hinted at what fans may expect if it ever does make it to the big screen.
Aly revealed to E! News that the news of an Easy A sequel/spin-off movie was "semi-real".
"There are talks that there might be a sequel," she confirmed to the outlet, adding: "It would be kind of like a new retelling but you'd see some of the characters from the original come back into the story."
Given that the original movie was released over a decade ago, it's uncertain who the returning stars may be if the sequel is made. Stars such as Emma Stone (Olive), Penn Badgley (good ol' Woodchuck Todd), and Amanda Bynes (Marianne) may not return, but based on Aly Michalka's knowledge of the sequel's potential plot, it may be likely that Rhiannon could return? We certainly hope so!
Although nothing is 100% confirmed at this stage, one thing is for sure, we will be playing Pocketful of Sunshine on repeat with our fingers crossed until that day comes!
