It was first announced last year (2018) that a 'Chicken Run' sequel was on its way, but we've been waiting a pretty long time for any further news.
Its been over 18 years since the OG came out, which any 90s kid will remember fondly - the award-winng Dreamworks animation telling the tale of a group of chickens doomed to a life of egg-laying, and their fight for freedom. Iconic.
Anyway, Aardman Animations have finally started working on the sequel apparently. Wooooo!
Will Becher, co-director of Aardman's latest film A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, has revealed that the talented people at Aardman's animation studios have begun crafting the chickens for the sequel.
"Well, all I can tell you is that there were a lot of chickens being made towards the end of our film,"
"We have a model-making team and, at one point, it was just full of sheep, but slowly over the course of the following weeks it became overrun with chickens,"
"So there is definitely an intention there and it was announced they are in pre-production on a sequel."
It's unclear whether original voices Mel Gibson and Julia Sawalha will be returning to the voice cast, and nothing has been revealed as to the plot yet either.
What we do know is that Sam Fell will direct the film, and the original writers Karey Kirkpatrick and John O'Farrell will collaborate on the screenplay again.
The original, released in 2000, grossed more than £174 million ($351 million NZD), which still stands as the highest-grossing stop motion animated film in history!
We're amped for the sequel, let's hope they move quick with the production.
