Back in May 2021, Netflix announced the release of a spinoff series of Bridgerton focussing on the younger years of Queen Charlotte, but since then, they've been relatively quiet about the upcoming series.
Here is everything we know so far.
The series is a prequel, traveling back to Queen Charlotte's younger years and exploring her rise to prominence and esteemed power.
Written by Bridgerton executive producer Shona Rhimes, the series will look into her life as a young woman and explore all of her romances and love affairs before she married King George III.
The Netflix head of global TV Bela Bajaria said:
The series will welcome new cast members India Amarteifio, who starred in Sex Education, as young Queen Charlotte, alongside Arsema Thomas as the young Lady Danbury.
Young King George will be played by Corey Mylchreest and Game of Thrones actress Michelle Fairley will star as his power-hungry mother, the Dowager Princess Augusta.
Amarteifio shared a photo on her Instagram with Golda Rosheuvel, who plays Queen Charlotte, leading us to believe the show has only just entered the pre-production stage.
Images have also been shared on Twitter giving us a glimpse of the new cast members and getting us way too excited already.
While Queen Charlotte is based on a real individual, she wasn't included in the novels by Julia Quinns, giving Rhimes the opportunity to take the story wherever she wants.
What we already know about the real Queen Charlotte's younger years, before marrying King George in 1761 and having 15 children (yes that's right, 15), is that she arrived in England with her two beloved Pomeranians – Phoebe and Mercury.
The real Queen Charlotte was an amateur botanist and a passionate admirer of music, especially of German composers like Handel and Mozart. It is also believed that she had African ancestry, giving her the title of Britain's first black royal.
Her nickname ‘Snuffy Charlotte’ was given to her because of her habit of inhaling ground tobacco, which saw her acquire nearly 100 snuff boxes by the time of her death in 1818.
While there is no release date set for this series yet, Netflix already has seasons 2, 3, and 4 lined up.
