'With love in our hearts': Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus file for divorce after 28 years of marriage

Tish filed for divorce on April 6th, stating the couple had 'irreconcilable differences'.

Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus have filed for divorce after 28 years of marriage.

Documents state that Tish filed for divorce from Billy Ray in the state of Tennessee, citing the reason as 'irreconcilable differences' after not living together for the past 2 years.

The couple released a statement to People magazine on April 11th, addressing the split, saying:

"We have not come to this decision lightly or quickly but with so much going on in the world, we wanted to provide some clarity and closure, so we can remain focused on what is important. With Love and Hope… Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus."

Tish shared a photo on her Instagram in December, pictured alongside her children Trace, Brandi, Miley, Braison, Noah, and her grandson Bear, without an appearance from Billy Ray.

Over their 28-year marriage, the pair have had rough patches with Tish filing for divorce back in 2013, while Billy Ray first filed back in 2010, although they eventually reconciled both times.

In 2011, when asked about the split in an interview with The View, he explained "I've dropped the divorce. I want to put my family back together,".

After reconciling a second time after filing for divorce in 2013, the couple said in a statement "We both woke up and realized we love each other and decided we want to stay together,"

"We both went into couples therapy, something we haven't done in 22 years of being together, and it's brought us closer together and really opened up our communication in amazing ways."

From the couple's turbulent history, it's possible they could reconcile for the third time and rekindle their relationship, although only time will tell.
