IKEA will open its first store in NZ at Auckland's Sylvia Park.
Two years ago it announced it would set up shop here in Aotearoa. Finally the wheels are in motion for it to become a reality - after a huge delay due to COVID-19.
They just signed an agreement to buy 3.2 hectares of land at Sylvia Park for their brand new store. Sounds like it's gonna be massive!
"Since we announced our intention to enter the market, the response from New Zealanders has been overwhelmingly positive. The signing of the agreement for sale and purchase of real Estate with Kiwi Property Group is an important step in making this a reality," Ikea New Zealand chief executive Mirja Viinanen said.
"We look forward to sharing more details of our plans and timings to bring IKEA to the many New Zealanders in the near future."
For those out of Auckland - don't worry. Online is shopping is coming too so everyone can enjoy the IKEA phenomenon in their own home.
