Happy Spooky Season pals!

If you’re on the hunt for some scary shows and movies to watch over the weekend, then look no further. We’ve got you covered with a bunch of suggestions from some of our announcers, Edge office staff and suggestions from you!

We’ll be covering everything from the classics, to the family-friendly, notable mentions, and sh*t-your-pants scary films and TV shows, so there should be something for everyone in this article.

Firstly, let’s start with the classic frightening films and shows that any seasoned-horror-professional has most likely already seen, but we couldn’t leave off the list.

  • Scream Franchise

The classic American Meta Slasher franchise that has won the hearts of horror fans. If you’re into clever and scary movies, and haven’t already seen it, then what are you doing?!

  • A Nightmare on Elm Street

A big 80’s classic that anyone is bound to enjoy. Scary, but not sh*t-your-pants-terrifying, ya know? Oh, and this is Johnny Depp’s debut film!

  • Friday the 13th

This film changed the way we see hockey masks forever…. She starts off as a fun wee film, but sh*t gets dark very quickly…

  • The Conjuring

With any horror film that is loosely based off a true story, you know you’re in for a treat. Oh, and Producer Dan from The Edge Afternoons says this film is “the best modern scary movie” in his humble opinion.

  • American Horror Story

With 10 seasons of this show already out and set to be renewed for 3 more, this is a perfect binge-worthy show for your Halloween weekend.

  • The Halloween Franchise

I mean, you’d assume any movie literally named “Halloween” would be fitting for, ya know, Halloween.

Plus, it would be rude not to also include the following:

  • Paranormal Activity Franchise

  • The Shining

  • The Addams Family

  • Child’s Play and Chucky

Perhaps you’re in the mood for a more family friendly Halloween movie? A.K.A. you’re way too terrified to commit to an actual horror film. (Don’t worry, some people are just simply not built for them, and we don't blame you.)
  • Hocus Pocus

The Spooky 90’s Disney film that everyone loves. This nostalgic, family friendly movie never fails to get us in the Halloween spirit, and is a fan favourite in the Edge Office, and from your suggestions!

  • The Haunted Mansion

Another Disney classic! Eddie Murphy brings his humor to the table in this film, but Disney still managed to get a great balance of spooky in there too.

  • Labyrinth

With a star-studded cast including David Bowie, and a PG label - this one is perfect for a family Halloween night.

  • Coraline

Tbh, even though this movie is made for kids, it’s still very creepy and cleverly done!

  • Casper

Who remembers loving this as a kid?! And was Casper the Ghost anyone else's first crush?! No.. Just me? Alrighty then…

  • Halloweentown

Yet another favourite from our childhood. Anyone else remember the excitement of this movie being aired on Disney channel once a year?!

  • The Nightmare before Christmas

A family movie that has both Halloween AND Christmas elements in it? Sign me up!

  • Beetlejuice

An absolute classic! This one’s more of a comedy/ fantasy, but still very fitting for the spooky season.

  • Edward Scissorhands

A movie that everyone should watch at least, even if it isn't Halloween.

Okay, let’s get back to the more adult-scary/ chilling stuff…

  • The Babadook

In the words of Producer Cal from Edge Breakfast, “BABADOOK IS AMAZING”. Jayden from The Edge Afternoons is also a big fan of this one.

  • Us

Another great one from Jordan Peele (Get Out), that follows a family and their creepy as heck look-alikes.

  • The Exorcist

This supernatural horror series is perfect for anyone who’s into all that paranormal, demonic stuff.

  • The Haunting of Hillhouse

This Netflix supernatural series is a perfect one to chomp through this weekend. When you’ve finished that, be sure to watch The Haunting of Bly Manor.

Want something a bit more psychological? Here’s some suggestions from Jayden from The Edge Afternoons:

  • Irreversible

  • Clockwork Orange

  • Mulholland Drive

  • Enemy

  • Get Out

So, you’ve seen all of the above and you’re still not phased? If you want to sink your teeth into something seriously disturbing, give these a go...

  • Human Centipede

  • Midsommar

  • SAW franchise

  • Hereditary

  • A Serbian Film (apparently this one is mega cooked)

Now we’re just gonna rattle off a BUNCH of suggestions from you, see them below!

  • Jeepers Creepers

  • Wolf Creek

  • Practical Magic

  • Goosebumps

  • Leather Face

  • The Thing (1980)

  • Disturbia

  • The Babysitter

  • The Ritual

And of course some notable mentions of some more scary things to watch this Halloween:

  • Your Facebook memories

  • The 4pm Press Conference

  • Your Snapchat memories after a night out

Yeah, those take the cake.

Still not satisfied? If you haven't heard of the Streaming Service Shudder, then you really should check it out.

It’s a platform dedicated to scary movies and shows, and they’re offering a 7 day free trial. With a bunch of new releases, you’re bound to find something to watch that you haven’t seen before.

Of course there was no way we were gonna cover every single great Halloween show or film to watch, but hopefully you’ve found something in this list that tickles your ghost!

Happy watching.. Stay spooky.
