For those who don't meet its unrealistic definition of "beauty," the fashion industry can be a very toxic place. Even those in the spotlight aren’t safe from the harsh criticism and vicious words of the designers in charge.

However, it hasn't stopped celebrities and influencers from reclaiming power by calling out the designers that attempted to knock them down.

Here are some of our favourite moments celebrities clapped back!

Because a lot of the high fashion houses "weren't dressing Black girls," Zendaya's stylist Law Roach worked with emerging designers rather than major names early in her career.

He explained to Paper Mag, "I really believed in her from the day she walked in. I thought she was a star and I wanted to throw everything that I had, anything that I could do, into her. I just felt like the world needed to know this girl so what it forced me to do was to start building relationships with emerging designers, which in essence was forcing me to be even more creative in a space that I already had no experience in."

Now, thanks to his hard work in establishing Zendaya as a fashion icon "everybody wants to dress her," but as one of the best clap backs ever Roach goes back to the high-end labels that refused Zendaya at the start of her career and says, "Not this season!"

Designer Stefano Gabbana allegedly commented "She's so ugly," on a collage @TheCatWalkItalia posted of Selena Gomez on Instagram in 2018. A few months later, the singer quietly shaded him by wearing a glittery clip that read, "Ugly."

"When someone has a desire to speak out about something by using a word so hateful...we ignore it.” Mandy Teefey, Gomez's mother, told People.

Although it looks like Selena wore it with pride!

Bebe Rexha uploaded an Instagram video ahead of the 2019 Grammy Awards, clapping back at designers who "do not want to dress [her] because [she's] too big."

She went on to say, "If a size six/eight is too big, then I don't know what to tell you. Then I don't want to wear your f...ing dresses."

Bebe then made a great statement in an interview on the red carpet. Wearing a beautiful Monsoori gown, the singer sarcastically called out those who refused to work with her, "You wish you would've dressed my big ass!"

"I represent the majority of women, and I'm really proud of it," Adele told People in 2012 after Karl Lagerfeld thought she was "a little too fat."

"I've never wanted to appear like models on magazine covers," she stated.

Lagerfeld later responded by telling Metro, "I'd like to say to Adele that I am your biggest admirer. Sometimes when you take a sentence out of the article it changes the meaning of the thought. What I said was in relation to Lana Del Rey and the sentence has since been taken out of context from how it was originally published."

Not sure that apology covers the fact that he still said what he said… but pop off!

If that wasn’t enough to put you off Karl Lagerfeld he did it again! This time against the amazing Meryl Streep!

Lagerfeld claimed that Meryl Streep declined one of his Chanel gowns in favour of a gown she'd been paid to wear to the 2017 Academy Awards, the actress sued him for defamation, claiming that his statement "overwhelm[ed] her] appearance at the Oscars, on the occasion of [her] record-breaking 20th nomination."

In a statement, Streep said, "Karl Lagerfeld, a prominent designer, defamed me, my stylist, and the illustrious designer whose dress I chose to wear, in an important industry publication. That publication printed this defamation, unchecked."
