Marvel has confirmed that Loki, God of Mischief, is bisexual in episode 3 of Disney+ series.
We’re finally getting some bisexual representation in the Marvel universe as Marvel have confirmed Loki - played by actor Tom Hiddleston - as the first openly LGBTQIA+ lead character in the MCU movies and Disney+ spinoffs.
Ahead of the release of the series – titled Loki – a teaser trailer confirmed the character as gender-fluid, and now a new scene which occurs in the third episode ‘Lamentis,’ officially confirms Loki as bisexual during a conversation between himself and Sylvie (played by Sophia Di Martino.)
During a conversation about love and relationships, Sylvie asks Loki “How about you? You’re a prince. Must’ve been would-be-princesses… or, perhaps, another prince?” Loki responds with the all-telling, “A bit of both. I suspect the same as you.”
Shortly after the episode aired, director Kate Herron took to Twitter to express the importance of the scene.
“From the moment I joined @LokiOfficial it was very important to me, and my goal, to acknowledge Loki was bisexual. It is a part of who he is and who I am to. I know this is a small step but I’m happy, and my heart is so full, to say that this is now Canon.”
Fans of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) have been reacting to the scene on social media, many of whom are praising Marvel for confirming Loki’s bisexuality as a win for the LGBTQIA+ community.
The series is wildly impressive – with amazing sets, costumes and cinematography - and has been garnering positive reviews online since its release earlier this month, with this new announcement sure to increase viewership.
Loki is available for streaming exclusively on Disney+
