Christina Aguilera just wrote an open letter about the Britney Spears conservatorship, calling it “the most depleting, devastating and demeaning thing imaginable.”
Christina gave her thoughts on the situation as an outsider looking in on the restrictions Britney has been living under since 2008.
“These past few days I’ve been thinking about Britney and everything she’s going through,” Christina wrote, alongside a pic of her and Britney when they were teens.
“It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish.”
She goes on to say the way her family and close network has treated her is “nothing to be taken lightly”, because of the “harmful mental and emotional damage this can take on a human spirit”.
She also says that women should be the boss of their own bodies and what they want to do with them, addressing the allegation that Britney has been forced to keep in an IUD contraceptive, despite wanting to have more children.
“While I’m not behind the closed doors of this very layered & personal yet public conversation – all I can do is share from my heart on what I’ve heard, read and seen in the media,” Christina continued.
“The conviction and desperation of this plea for freedom leads me to believe that this person I once knew has been living without compassion or decency from those in control.”
Christina closed her letter by saying that her heart goes out to Britney - and that she deserves all the true love and support in the world.
