Everyone loves a good hummus, but it turns out that eating too much can have some pretty unpleasant side effects...Booooo.
Not only is hummus delicious, but it's also full of fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, making it pretty healthy.
It's also suuuuper easy to eat a whole tub in one sitting. And that's where nutritionist Heather Hanks has warned us to no over-do it.
"Hummus is made from chickpeas," Hanks told Eat This, Not That, "which are a legume. These can be hard to digest for many people, and induce GI inflammation."
Signs of GI inflammation include bloating, intestinal gas, acid reflux, and abdominal pain. So if you've ever experienced any of these after eating a bunch of hummus, you probably now know why.
But all hope is not lost, because you can actually train your body to eat more hummus without having to worry about any side effects. How? By slowly increasing your fiber intake.
All that means is if you're new to eating hummus, then start with small doses and slowly work your way up. It's that easy!
We found this info helpful, but to be honest, sometimes we just wanna eat a whole tub of hummus, and sometimes... the stomach pains are worth it. 😂
