It looks like post-pandemic movie releases might be completely changed as straight to digital releases have done incredibly well recently. Disney announced that Black Widow and Cruella will be released in theatres and on the same day will be available on Disney + for a fee.
Disney tried this tactic out last year with the live-action remake of Mulan and Raya And The Last Dragon so it looks like this will be their new normal. With many people worldwide still quarantining it’s no surprise that Disney wants to ensure that movies are incredibly accessible while also making their budget.
Unfortunately, Black Widow has been delayed yet again but we’re sure it’ll be worth the wait! Cruella will be released on May 28th and Black Widow will be released on July 9th. At this time it is uncertain there will be a different price or release time for New Zealanders however if we follow Disney’s current trend it’s more than likely that it will be released at the same time worldwide. There will be a one-off fee of $30 to hire the movies when they’re first released. Luca will no longer be released in cinemas however upon its release it will be free on Disney Plus which is definitely a win.
Looks like we’ve got plenty of movies to be binge-watching soon! Whether we watch them in cinemas or in our own beds, we can’t wait to see Cruella and Black Widow’s stories unfold on our screens.
