The Hijab is now formally a part of the NZ police uniform

Zeena Ali joined the police force after the Christchurch terror attack to help her Muslim community. She is also the reason the police have added the hijab to their uniform, which is a significant milestone!

She will graduate from police college in a week and be the first woman to wear the hijab after helping design it with the police. It has been designed to function well for her role as well as considering her religion.

She spoke to the Herald about the entire process,

It feels great to be able to go out and show the New Zealand Police hijab as part of my uniform,

"I think that seeing it, more Muslim women will want to join as well."

She also remised on the time where she decided to join the police,

"One of the security guards I worked with was going to join the police and she asked me to help her," she said.

"As I started that process the Christchurch terror attack happened and that's when I realised more Muslim women were needed in the police, to go and support people with things like this.

"If I had joined the police earlier I would have been down there to help."

Zeena is so inspiring, and we are so proud of this move for the NZ Police!
