We know you’re reaching the point where you’ve done just about everything there is to do at home twenty times already, and you just want something new to do to pass the time.
So what if we told you you could do a Hogwarts themed escape room, all from the comfort of your couch?
This Harry Potter virtual escape room was created by Sydney Krawiec, the youth services librarian at the Peters Township Public Library in Pennsylvania. The library used to host real-life Harry Potter escape rooms, but since it closed down due to the global pandemic, Sydney “really wanted to be able to offer an online alternative that families and friends could still work on together from their homes,”
Basically the story is you’re a first-year student at Hogwarts, and as part of a bonding experience with the other new students, your house prefect “tells you about a new Muggle trend where they lock themselves in rooms and have to answer puzzles to get out—no magic at all!”
You then go through different scenarios mimicking a real-life escape room, where you have to solve puzzles themed in the magical world.
You may be picturing it as a video game vibe, but it’s actually a lot more old-school than that - it’s in the form of a simple Google Doc, so don’t be expecting anything too fancy. Still a great way to kill a bit of time though, whether you want to tackle it alone or as a team with the other members of your bubble.
Anything to not feel like Harry locked away in his room under the stairs right?
