Even though pretty much everything is shut down worldwide right now, it doesn’t mean you can’t still have a fun (virtual) day out.
Many zoos and aquariums still want you to see their beautiful animals, so they’re doing livestreams available around the world so we can all check in with what the animals are up to. Sounds like a pretty great way to kill some time to us!
Here are 6 zoos and aquariums you can ‘visit’:
Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens
Over in Seminole, Florida in the US, the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens are closed down until further notice due to COVID-19. But lucky for us they have launched a Facebook Live series called ‘The Zoo Comes to You’ which is streaming live daily at 7am NZ time. You can watch the latest installment below, where the trainers give us a close up look at the clouded leopards - they’re pretty bloody cool!
Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden
The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden in Ohio, US are doing a similar Facebook Live video series daily called ‘Home Safari’. Each episode highlights some of the animals and also includes an activity you can do at home, such as an online quiz about the animal. It streams at 8am NZ time daily. Check out the latest episode below, introducing us to Sir Francis the red river hog.
Houston Zoo in Texas are hosting a livestream featuring a different animal daily at 8pm NZ time. Hosted on Facebook, viewers can ask the keepers questions via the comments and they will be answered live. Check them out introducing us to the adorable red pandas below:
