A massive fire has broken out at the Sky City convention centre.
Mayor Phil Goff has posted a photo of smoke pillowing from the centre.
"Huge fire at the Sky City convention centre. Fire engines on route," Goff tweeted.
The $700 million convention centre is currently under construction in Auckland. Workers at the site have been evacuated with one telling NZ Herald "we have no idea what is going on, all of a sudden we were told to get out."
According to Stuff, another worker has said they had been using "a torch, like a blow torch" to heat and seal waterproofing material, which is what started the fire.
