Move over Gilmours - US giant bulk retailer Costco is coming to New Zealand.
The discount retail store will set up shop in Auckland's northwest mall Westgate, where it will offer everything from groceries to glasses.
Spanning 14,000 square metres (roughly the size of two rugby fields) The Westgate warehouse will include a Costco fuel station, tyre centre, food court, optometrists, hearing aid services along with groceries and homewares.
Construction of the new site will cost $90 million with an estimated 350 full-time jobs to be created.
"I think it's a game changer," said New Zealand Retail Property Group (NZRPG) general manager Campbell Barbour.
"A global retailer of this scale and influence added to the ongoing development of the offer at Westgate cements the town as one of the key retail locations in Auckland," he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Costco wholesale Australia managing director Patrick Noone said he was excited about moving into New Zealand.
"We feel Westgate is the perfect location for us and we look forward to being an integral part of the growth in Auckland," he said.
Construction on the new warehouse will begin as soon as regulatory consent is acquired.
