We're so here for any environmentally conscious brand, and Adidas has just made a new step in eco-friendly fashion - a 100% recyclable running shoe.
The Futurecraft.Loop shoe is Adidas' first sneaker that can be completely remade into another high performance trainer. As part of the brand's commitment to tackle plastic waste, their new show are made from only one material, and use absolutely no glue - so they're super easy to recycle.
Back in 2015, Adidas introduced it's first performance sneaker concept with a upper made from 100% recycled materials. This year, they're producing 11 million pairs of show with Ocean Plastic® by Parley by intercepting plastic waste on beaches, remote islands and in coastal communities.
Eric Liedtke, an executive board member at Adidas, says: "Taking plastic waste out of the system is the first step, but we can’t stop there,"
"What happens to your shoes after you’ve worn them out? You throw them away – except there is no away. There are only landfills and incinerators and ultimately an atmosphere choked with excess carbon, or oceans filled with plastic waste. The next step is to end the concept of “waste” entirely. Our dream is that you can keep wearing the same shoes over and over again. Futurecraft.Loop is our first running shoe that is made to be remade. It is a statement of our intent to take responsibility for the entire life of our product; proof that we can build high-performance running shoes that you don’t have to throw away,"
So once you're done with your shoes - whether they're worn out or you're just wanting a style update - you just return them to Adidas. The shoes are then washed, ground down to pellets and melted into material used to make new shoes - there's absolutely zero waste!
One step closer to an environmentally-friendly wardrobe - it's a yes from us. Plus, they look cool too.
