The Simpsons’ Apu Nahasapeemapetilon has been around on The Simpsons for bloody ages. You know the legend - he's the one who runs the Kwik-E-Mart and takes no bull from anyone.
But now producers have decided that he will be no more following backlash over his racial stereotyping.
Producer Adi Shankar has claimed to verify the news from many sources, with the decision coming after Hari Kondabolu's documentary The Problem With Apu in 2017, which focused on how heavily the show might stereotype those in the South Asian community.
The doco outlined that the stereotyping of Apu was insensitive and damaging to the representation of the South-Asian community in America and their culture.
There has been talk about crowd funding scripts that would, in a way, save Apu's character, producing an episode that raised all the issues of stereotyping given in the documentary, and updating his character for today’s audience.
Butttt only time will tell what will really happen to Apu :(
