Kevin Kwan, the author of book Crazy Rich Asians which was turned into a box office hit, is wanted in Singapore for failing to report for military duty.
Kevin, 44, did not register for military service in 1990 despite being served notice to do so.
While speaking with the Straits Times, Singapore's defense minister said:
Mr Kevin Kwan failed to register for National Service (NS) in 1990, despite notices and letters sent to his overseas address. He also stayed overseas without a valid exit permit. Mr Kwan is therefore wanted for defaulting on his NS obligations,
The author left Singapore when he was 11 and has applied twice to renounce his citizenship, but was rejected both times because he has not served his military service.
In Singapore, all men over 18 have to take military service with the armed forces, police or the civil defence force.
Kwan, who is now based in the US, could face up to three years in prison if he returns to Singapore.
