Demi Lovato has released a really emotional new single, in which she appears to say she has broken her sobriety after six years.
Lovato - who has been continuously praised for her openness about addiction and mental health - released the track, Sober, to streaming and download services today.
“Mama I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore, and daddy please forgive me for the drink spilled on the floor,” she sings.
“To the ones who never left me, we’ve been down this road before… I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore.”
Addressing her millions of supporters directly, she says: “And I’m sorry for the fans I lost, who watched me fall again.
“I wanna be your role model but I’m only human.”
The song ends powerfully with the words: “I’m sorry that Im here again, I promise I’ll get help.
“I’m sorry that I’m here again, I’m sorry to myself.”
On social media, she said only: “My truth… #Sober out now.”
In March of this year that she celebrated six years of sobriety.
In her 2017 documentary Simply Complicated, it was revealed that she had continued to use alcohol and drugs after she famously left rehab in 2011.
Her fans have been flooding her social media with messages of support today.
