'The Witches' is back to give us nightmares all over again

We remember watching The Witches for the first time back in the day with our innocent young minds - and being terrified to sleep afterwards.

Well we're bracing ourselves to relive the nightmares all over again and you should too, because a remake of the 1990 classic is on it's way.

The director of Back to the Future and Forrest Gump, Robert Zemeckis, is apparently in final negotiations to direct Warner Bros.' adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic book The Witches. The story follows a little boy who stumbles upon a coven of child-hating witches, and he proceeds to try and stop their evil plans after he is turned into a mouse. Yeahhhhhh.

There are mixed opinions on whether this adaptation is a good idea, with fans saying:

"I am speechless. I trust that Zemeckis/Del Toro/Cuarón can deliver something dark and unsettling that sticks to the original ending."

And another adding: "I will keep an eye out on this remake. Hopefully they make it closer to the book and have the main character be European instead of American. That always bothered me in the original film."

Others are less into the idea, with one person saying on Twitter: "The one from 1990 still gives me the creeps so yeah leave it alone."

Another said: "Hollywood: STOP. IT. We DO NOT need a remake of this movie !!!!! STOOOOPPPPPP".

We're kind of on the less keen side TBH, but hopefully Zemeckis and co. can work their magic on this one.

Here's a little peak at the OG if you've never seen it:
