Robbing banks for money is so last year, now if you wanna be a real thief you've got to go for the good stuff; food.

First there were the group that stole 20 tonnes worth of Nutella and Kinder Surprise, now someone's taken it to the next level.

A man in Texas has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing $1.2 million USD ($1.7 million NZD) worth of Fajitas.

For 9 years, 53 year old Gilberto Escamilla, had been stealing orders of Fajitas, from Labott Food Service, that were intended for his workplace without them knowing. It wasn't until the Labott Food Driver rang Gilberto's work to let them know he was delivering another 800 pound order of Fajitas that he was finally caught out.

A kitchen employee from Gilberto's work told the driver that they didn't serve fajitas but the driver told her that he'd been delivering fajitas to them for the past nine years.

Turns out over the nine years, Gilberto had managed to take $1,251,578 USD worth of fajitas and delivered them to his own customers (and keep a personal stash for himself).

While testifying in court, Gilberto said:

I feel horrible. I wish I could take this back. It was selfish. It started small and got bigger and out of control. It got to the point where I couldn't control it anymore.

Do you know anyone who loves Mexican as much as this guy?
