Real Journeys Queenstown Winter Festival 2020

2020 Real Journeys Queenstown Winter Festival Cancelled

New Zealand’s largest celebration of winter, the Real Journeys Queenstown Winter Festival has been cancelled as a result of the unfolding Covid-19 pandemic.

The festival, which was set to celebrate its 46th birthday this year, will no longer take place from Thursday 18 to Sunday 21 June, aligning with the New Zealand Government’s ban on public gatherings over 500 people.

Festival Director, Harald Ulriksen says the decision was made to protect the health and safety of the local and wider community.

“Along with our national government and local council, our priority is looking out for our community. It’s important that we band together to do everything we can to minimise the effects of this pandemic, and that means putting the best interests our of people at the heart of our decision making.

“Although it is with a heavy heart that we have to pull the pin on this year’s festival, we have faith in the ability of our community to bounce back from this crisis. We’ll be back in 2021 to bring the town, and wider community together and celebrate our beautiful backyard,” he says.

Ulriksen says the decision to cancel was not one made lightly and the team are working closely with sponsors and suppliers.

“We explored all avenues including postponing, however with the global uncertainty around how the pandemic will play out, it has been collectively decided that the best option is to cancel this year’s festival.

“We’re so humbled by the continued support of our sponsors and suppliers, and we’re working closely with them all to minimise financial implications and begin looking forward,” he says.

The Real Journeys Queenstown Winter Festival will return in 2021, with dates to be announced.
