Selena Gomez was meant to play Hannah from '13 Reasons Why'

Our girl Selena Gomez was originally meant to play the character of Hannah Baker on the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why.

You probs know by now that Selena is the Executive Producer for the series, but it has just come out that she was originally cast to play the main role of Hannah, the girl who takes her own life.

It was reported that Selena was going to play Hannah Baker TWO YEARS AGO when it first was announced that the book would be produced into a RL series.

Selena says she made the decision herself to stay behind the scenes as the producer as it would make the series more "credible" to media and viewers, and in turn be more effective in communicating the key messages and issues of the series.

“Once I left my series [Wizards of Waverly Place], once I started to go for roles that weren’t that age range — it organically began to become a project that I knew I would be behind the scenes with,” she told the NY Times.

“I actually like that I’m not in it. To be honest, this book has such a huge following. I wanted it to be credible. If I’m a part of it, that’s going to cause a whole other conversation.”

"I see myself as Hannah so much," she went on to say.

"Seven years ago I did and even more so today, which I think is funny because it's backwards. The older I get the more insecure I get, which is odd. But that's something a lot of people can relate to. Her personality is a quiet strength. I've never really been the one to be in anyone's face. A lot of girls feel like they have to be a certain way for attention. Social media has amplified all of that. I get that she didn't want that to be what her life was."

Selena also revealed that she was happy another actress took on the role of Hannah, "a book is frightening for me because I know the cult following it has, which is the reason why I didn't want to be in it."

FYI if you missed out MAJOR 13 Reasons Why spoiler then you need to check it out... it literally changed everything.
