After years of perfection in Hollywood, the backlash has begun! Suddenly we are starting to see a more casual approach to hair and make-up on the red carpet and the runway, and directors and designers are starting to look for the unique rather than the typical, perfect beauty.
Our girl Anna Paquin is reaping the benefit of this trend with her gap-toothed grin propelling her into international fame – sure a great TV series had a hand in that, but Anna, and a handful of other high profile actresses and models are the proof that imperfection is totes hot right now!
If you check out the cover of the latest British Vogue you’ll see Mick Jagger’s daughter Georgia, and her gap-toothed grin working it. Might I add that the French girlfriend of one very hot Johnny Depp, is the highly sought after model Vanessa Paradis, and she has a gap in her teeth. If she can land Johnny Depp, that’s as good an endorsement as any!
The New York Times has reported that dentists are seeing patients who, instead of seeking the perfect smile, opt instead for slightly staind, overlapping or grooved veneers. Perfection it seems has been exhausted.
I’m not just talking gappy teeth, Marc Jacobs’ recent catwalk could have been any uni hall after a big Saturday night, with all the models working bed-hair and make-up that looked like they’d slept in it.
So girls we can all breathe a sigh of relief and stop the torture of trying to be something we aren’t – at least momentarily!
I guess the moral of this story is that if you have something that’s a little different, be it a gap in your teeth, red hair, large eyes, thin lips, the one thing you are a little self conscious about, work it, it’s what makes you stand out.
Anna did, Vanessa did, Madonna did, now they’re laughing all the way to the bank.
