Actor WOODY HARRELSON was driving down Hollywood Boulevard when he saw a homeless guy holding a sign that said, "Need $$$ for Weed!"

He pulled over and CONGRATULATED the guy for telling the truth.

He also talked about his efforts to get pot legalized . . . and gave the dude 40 bucks.
