SIR ELTON JOHN's bassist has committed suicide.

Robert Wayne Birch has been rocking out with Elton since 1992. He was found in his home with a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

No suicide note has been found.

Robert has also performed with Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton, Cher, Sting and Tina Turner.
