Funnyman Russell Brand has signed on to headline a comedy show to raise funds for moviemaker David Lynch's meditation foundation.

The British comedian will top the bill at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, California on 29 November (11) to benefit the David Lynch Foundation, which supports stress-reducing meditation programmes for veterans, inner-city students and the homeless.

A fervent meditator and a big fan of Lynch and his work, Brand admits he jumped at the chance to headline the benefit.

He says, "After I learned Transcendental Meditation on a four-day course, I truly believe first hand that this practice does wonders with your mind, body and soul."

Brand credits meditation for helping him to stay sober following a past battle with addiction: "Daily practice is putting distance between myself and addiction."

And the funnyman is hoping the eccentric Twin Peaks director Lynch will be a big part of the show in San Francisco.

In a tweet to the filmmaker earlier this week (beg07Nov11), Brand wrote, "Dear @DAVID_LYNCH can you direct my gig on 29th? I'd like a macabre, non-linear dreamscape concluding with a larvae baby."
