I'm copping a few personal attacks and fielding hate mail and nasty comments over my decision to find Bella a new home.
I am really growing attatched to this puppy. Bella is so cute and I think Dom is warming to her too! But since Dom has already said; “the pup has to go” and we’ve been looking for a loving home for her among our Edge listeners, it’s too late to change my mind. Apart from the toilet training, she’s the perfect dog. So easy. I am going to cry like a little baby when I have to give her away. It is going to be so hard.
We have had about 250 people apply to adopt Bella. It is going to be very difficult to choose her new family.
Some people are giving us a hard time and that is upsetting. Especially the mean people who suggest that I would not make a good parent or should not have babies of my own because I gave up on a dog so easily. That is cruel, especially considering I have taken in my nephew (for the last 2 and a haf years) and have turned his life around, saving him from foster care, plus I have struggled to have my own baby due to fertility issues. I mean, COME ON. People go to pet stores and the SPCA every day and adopt pets. They are not researched and questioned and followed home to check they would make good pet parents. We are doing this with people who make the shortlist to adopt Bella so she goes to the best possible home.
Also, if I didn’t have her right now, she would still be in the pet shop. In a cage, hoping to be let out. She’s 18 weeks old, so she has been there long enough. We have given her a very safe and secure home and she is getting lots of love from me.
One nasty woman contacted my boss and compared us adopting out Bella to the kids who beat and tortured that black lab puppy this week. That is outrageous. Next thing you know she’ll be protesting outside every pet store and SPCA in the country. “Stop adopting pets to loving families! A dog was beaten in South Auckland!”
I know so many people who’s situation changed so they had to give their pets to new owners. My friend Corinna moved to Auckland from CHCH and had to give away her dog that she had had for 8 years because she couldn’t find a flat that allowed pets. We found the dog a new home on the air and he went to a family in Hastings. No one complained about that. Our LOST IN A BOX contestant Emma once had a dog for three months and had to give her away because the dog was too aggressive toward her. She found him a new home.
Bella is going to be the happiest dog ever. She is already very spoilt and I will make sure this continues.
