I'm copping a few personal attacks and fielding hate mail and nasty comments over my decision to find Bella a new home.

I am really growing attatched to this puppy. Bella is so cute and I think Dom is warming to her too! But since Dom has already said; “the pup has to go” and we’ve been looking for a loving home for her among our Edge listeners, it’s too late to change my mind. Apart from the toilet training, she’s the perfect dog. So easy. I am going to cry like a little baby when I have to give her away. It is going to be so hard.

We have had about 250 people apply to adopt Bella. It is going to be very difficult to choose her new family.
Some people are giving us a hard time and that is upsetting. Especially the mean people who suggest that I would not make a good parent or should not have babies of my own because I gave up on a dog so easily. That is cruel, especially considering I have taken in my nephew (for the last 2 and a haf years) and have turned his life around, saving him from foster care, plus I have struggled to have my own baby due to fertility issues. I mean, COME ON. People go to pet stores and the SPCA every day and adopt pets. They are not researched and questioned and followed home to check they would make good pet parents. We are doing this with people who make the shortlist to adopt Bella so she goes to the best possible home.

Also, if I didn’t have her right now, she would still be in the pet shop. In a cage, hoping to be let out. She’s 18 weeks old, so she has been there long enough. We have given her a very safe and secure home and she is getting lots of love from me.

One nasty woman contacted my boss and compared us adopting out Bella to the kids who beat and tortured that black lab puppy this week. That is outrageous. Next thing you know she’ll be protesting outside every pet store and SPCA in the country. “Stop adopting pets to loving families! A dog was beaten in South Auckland!”

I know so many people who’s situation changed so they had to give their pets to new owners. My friend Corinna moved to Auckland from CHCH and had to give away her dog that she had had for 8 years because she couldn’t find a flat that allowed pets. We found the dog a new home on the air and he went to a family in Hastings. No one complained about that. Our LOST IN A BOX contestant Emma once had a dog for three months and had to give her away because the dog was too aggressive toward her. She found him a new home.
Bella is going to be the happiest dog ever. She is already very spoilt and I will make sure this continues.

    Dear Jay-Jay,

I absolutely know what you are feeling, going through...my husband and I have been married and been trying for a baby for two years now...and I know how exhausting it is to try and no matter what you do, how you do it, there is no baby....sooo for someone to say that you cannot be a good parent and you shouldn't have children?...that is just plain evil! Honestly JJ, I had a similar situation just resently, when a girl I know (who got married at the same time as me) who has a baby, asks me if we have kids yet, I said no...she told me laughing "good that you dont have kids, if you did, they would probably die"....I'm a 25 year old Tongan Woman, happily married, on my last year of my Bachelor degree...I love children...I cried for nearly a whole day when she said that....but got over it...her marriage life isn't that great, they lack love....but mine is full of love...so, i guess she wanted to make herself feel better. Thats what i'm imagining why people are saying that to you, their live's are miserable, they are jealous that you're beautiful, smart, talented and funny woman who is also a celebrity loved by many listeners...so dont you worry gurl!
as for the fertility problems...you'll get there, I still have faith we will...you'll be the best mom ever!
    love from

Jay jay it is so upsetting to hear that people have been sending you hate mail questioning your parenting abilities. I can only hope that you don't take any of this to heart!! I actually feel sorry for people who are so quick to put others down....I would hate to think how sad & miserable their lives must be!!

Come on people! Who compares a dog to a baby? Really? I have a dog and also have children.Although I adore my dog,he in no way compares to the love I have for my boys.Yes I'm sure my dog is more loyal than my financial spongy kids who drain every fibre of my being on a daily basis, yet a mothers love is unconditional. IMHO I believe anyone who believes animals are just as precious as a newborn baby should NOT have children. Jay Jay you keep your chin up sweetheart. Your laughter and happy disposition would make any child lucky to have you as a mum. All the very best, Mitch

Dear JJ, In New Zealand we are very lucky to have a little thing called freedom of speech, I guess all of the comments horrible and otherwise are from people exercising this right to do so. My only comment too all of them would be how marvelous they are to sit in judgment of you and your little family, how self righteous they must feel to extol the virtues of their exemplary lives and how disappointed they must feel that nobody can live up to their example. Thank you JJ for sharing your life with us and the troubles you and your husband have been going through trying to have a baby. Thank you for being honest and admitting that right now is just not the right time for you too have a dog in the house. Thank you for ensuring the little fella will be going to a caring and responsible home. I think a few more of us could try and live up to your example. Regards Robyn (Georgia's mum)

I listen to your most mornings and you normally give me a fun start to the day but I have to say you better give up on the idea of having children if Dom can't even handle a little puppy making a bit of a mess now & then. What does he think a child is going to be like? I remember the odd little spot of poos & wees ending up in places it shouldn't have from our kids when they were toilet training to!! - not much difference to a pup really. He needs to grow up a little I think and do some prioritizing.
