Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger was left red-faced while filming a guest judge role on a U.K. TV talent show - after Simon Cowell urged her to call successful contestants "tools".
Prankster Cowell convinced the pop star the word, which is British slang for fool, referred to those with excellent singing voices - and asked her to use it to describe wannabes auditioning for Britain's The X Factor.
An insider tells Britain's The Sun, "Simon loved winding Nicole up. Even though she has a British boyfriend she had never heard the phrase before.
"Simon eventually had to step in when she kept using it about people she liked."
Cowell eventually owned up to his joke, confessing the real meaning of the slur to a blushing Scherzinger, who was filling in for new mum Dannii Minogue.
