MY BIG DAY OUT
By Megan (10am-12pm weekdays on The Edge)

No matter what the weather is like BDO day people will always complain. Turns out the forecast rain never happened and it was a gorgeous day, which in turn meant some very pink people!
Despite the heat and the heartbreak of missing The Temper Trap I went and checked out Passion Pit. The smaller stages were packed and Passion Pit rocked. Everyone had a good singalong to Little Secrets, and then stayed in anticipation for Ladyhawke.
I moved on and checked out a very quiet Kasabian - not the bands fault, more shonky sound system on the Blue Stage, but what can you do - still rocked it!
Dizzee Rascall was another fav. This guy grabbed everyone by their bits and pieces and got them on their feet. In the middle of mostly rock acts on the main stages, and with an audience of people, who I'm sure didn't class him as the highlight of their day, Dizzee Rascall had the whole of Mt Smart stadium bouncing - literally. The field was alive, and everyones hands were in the air. Even some older chicks near me shrugged their shoulders and took to bouncing around, waving their arms in an awkward mum fashion.

Lily Allen was awesome. What can I say, dont quit! She wore a cute little off the shoulder, pink mini dress and huge black heels, but that didnt stop her rocking out! Thats my girl. My only problem was the same problem I had with Kasabian, the Blue Stage had serious sound issues! At some points she was barely audible! Nonetheless she charmed the crowd kicking off her heels and strutting around in bare feet, with a ciggy and drink in tow.

Im sorry to Mars Volta fans - but my god, I wanted to curl up in a hole and die. Rubbish.

Muse on the other hand! I am biased I admit, but I don't think anyone watching the spectacle that Muse put on would disagree when I say it was incredible!
These boys have earnt themselves the title of Best Live Band in the World, and they showed everyone why. Aside from the fact that Matt Bellamy can belt out a tune, and the energy they put into just playing their respective instruments, they boys added a laser show, an awesome lighting and big screen display, and gas canisters to the end of their set. Honestly if you get the chance to see them - you NEED to.

Clint caught up with some of the Big Day Out artists backstage before they hit the stage...

MUSE
Pt 1 - On playing the Big Day Out, some of the crazy parties Big Day Out artists have had...

Pt 2 - On being named "The Best Band in the World", what their (Chris') favourite band is they've seen live and they're coming back to NZ soon? Yes they are! Chris reveals when...

DIZZEE RASCAL
On the Big Day out, what we can expect from a Dizzee show and losing his s**t at Clint?! (Temper temper Dizzee!)

CALVIN HARRIS
Pt 1 - On eating two breakfasts on the plane over here (and regretting it) and losing his bags at Heathrow

Pt 2 - On what we can expect from his live show and making music videos

Pt 3 - On his mates Ke$ha (who he admits is actually crazy, in a good way of course), crashing Dizzee Rascal's set at the Big Day Out and what other acts he wants to catch live while he's on the BDO tour

PASSION PIT
Pt 1 - On Auckland compared to Vancouver, what can we expect from a Passion Pit show

Pt 2 - On how they got their band name, and there's a porno movie of the same name?! (It's unrelated they say... suuurre)

JET
Pt 1 - On playing festivals and how they get all the energy to keep going with so many gigs on the agenda and "The Big Day Off"

Pt 2 - On the video for K.I.A. and trying to get Cate Blanchett to make an appearance on it

Pt 3 - On who would win in a fight... BDO band vs. BDO band!

Muse & Lily Allen were playing cricket at Takapuna Beach yesterday. Kasabian were spotting by the Auckland Casino, probably going to Denny's for a delicious skillet. The Mars Volta, NZ semi-regulars were spotted at the Mexican Cafe. Probably just because Denny's was fully booked. Tweet us any BDO artist sightings to us @TheEdgeNZ

@PassionPit
Hello New Zealand! This place is like Canada, only warmer and a bit more south... See you tomorrow!

@CalvinHarris
In Auckland! Definitely shouldn't have had waffles and whipped cream for breakfast on the plane, but they shouldn't have given me the option

@Muse
They're twitpic-ing like crazy! Check out the pics of them playing cricket with Lily Allen at Takapuna Beach...

20 Jan 10 The Mars Volta weren't rubbish. Rebecca
17 Jan 10 Awesome day....gotta say, some of it was just too loud and the words and quality of the artists got lost....better sound system may have helped in this matter. Awesome weather. Best overall artists....while Muse definitely had it on sheer power output, I would have to say LadyHawke gave the most quality presentation....after that, Passion Pit and Midnight Youth. Dizzy Rascal definitely got the crowd moving but again a bit of noise overkill. The later songs in his act were a better selection. Apart from those "artistic presentation" details the whole day was unequivocally a total success from beginning to end. The Edge totally earned their support with the bag check tent.....a detail yes, but a very useful one to make the day even better. Cheers! Nigel
