MY BIG DAY OUT
By Megan (10am-12pm weekdays on The Edge)
No matter what the weather is like BDO day people will always complain. Turns out the forecast rain never happened and it was a gorgeous day, which in turn meant some very pink people!
Despite the heat and the heartbreak of missing The Temper Trap I went and checked out Passion Pit. The smaller stages were packed and Passion Pit rocked. Everyone had a good singalong to Little Secrets, and then stayed in anticipation for Ladyhawke.
I moved on and checked out a very quiet Kasabian - not the bands fault, more shonky sound system on the Blue Stage, but what can you do - still rocked it!
Dizzee Rascall was another fav. This guy grabbed everyone by their bits and pieces and got them on their feet. In the middle of mostly rock acts on the main stages, and with an audience of people, who I'm sure didn't class him as the highlight of their day, Dizzee Rascall had the whole of Mt Smart stadium bouncing - literally. The field was alive, and everyones hands were in the air. Even some older chicks near me shrugged their shoulders and took to bouncing around, waving their arms in an awkward mum fashion.
Lily Allen was awesome. What can I say, dont quit! She wore a cute little off the shoulder, pink mini dress and huge black heels, but that didnt stop her rocking out! Thats my girl. My only problem was the same problem I had with Kasabian, the Blue Stage had serious sound issues! At some points she was barely audible! Nonetheless she charmed the crowd kicking off her heels and strutting around in bare feet, with a ciggy and drink in tow.
Im sorry to Mars Volta fans - but my god, I wanted to curl up in a hole and die. Rubbish.
Muse on the other hand! I am biased I admit, but I don't think anyone watching the spectacle that Muse put on would disagree when I say it was incredible!
These boys have earnt themselves the title of Best Live Band in the World, and they showed everyone why. Aside from the fact that Matt Bellamy can belt out a tune, and the energy they put into just playing their respective instruments, they boys added a laser show, an awesome lighting and big screen display, and gas canisters to the end of their set. Honestly if you get the chance to see them - you NEED to.
